Detailed Rules for the Selection of Distinguished Members

  1. to prescribe the qualifications and selection procedure for candidates for Distinguished Members as stipulated in Article 5, Clause 5 of the Constitution of the Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine.
  2. Candidates to be nominated as Distinguished Members must have rendered distinguished service to the Society. 3.
  3. Candidates for Meritorious Membership shall fulfil the following conditions 1 or 2: 1.
    1. a total of at least 10 years of membership in the Society and a history of teaching, research and other activities in the field of tropical medicine
    2. members of the Society who, notwithstanding condition 1 above, have rendered outstanding service to the Society
  4. the age of the person to be nominated as a Meritorious Member shall, in principle, be 65 years old or over.
  5. When a person wishes to nominate a Meritorious Service Member, a nomination form by a Councilor shall be submitted to the President at least one month prior to the annual meeting of the Board of Councilors. 6.
  6. The Board of Directors shall select the distinguished members and the Board of Councilors shall approve the selection.
  7. The Board of Directors shall determine separately how these bylaws shall be administered.
  8. amendments to these bylaws shall be made by the Board of Directors and approved by the Board of Councilors. 
Supplementary provisions
  1. These bylaws were approved by the Board of Directors on 21 October 2009 and by the Board of Councilors on 22 October 2009 and shall come into force on 1 January 2010.
  2. the amendments to these bylaws shall enter into force on 9 November 2019
  3. the amendments to these bylaws shall enter into force on 9 October 2022.

Arrangements for the operation of the ‘Bylaws for the Selection of Meritorious Members’ in accordance with section 7 (decided by the Board of Directors on 21 October 2009).

  1. if a candidate fully meets the qualifications for a Meritorious Member under these Bylaws but wishes to continue the Society’s activities as an active member or councilor, the candidate’s will shall be respected.
