Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine Women’s Award Selection Regulations

(Purpose)

Article 1. The Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine (JSTM) awards the Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine (JSTM) Women’s Prize to women who have made international achievements in the field of tropical medicine.

(Persons eligible for the award)

Article 2. One woman who has made outstanding achievements in the field of tropical medicine and whose contribution to the field is recognized as significant shall, in principle, be selected each year.

2. The eligibility of the awardee should preferably be a member of the Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine.

3. the criteria for selection shall be one of the following.

1. have an outstanding original paper in tropical medicine published in a relevant journal and be the first or liaison author of the paper; 2. have an outstanding original paper in tropical medicine published in a relevant journal and be the first or liaison author of the paper; or the research in question should have been reported at a conference of the Society.

2. have made internationally acclaimed achievements in clinical research and epidemic control research in tropical medicine, and have made a significant contribution to the conquest of disease.

(Selection Committee)

Article 3. A selection committee shall be established to select the recipients of the ‘Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine Women Award’.

2. The Selection Committee shall consist of all Board members.

3. The Chairperson of the Selection Committee shall be the President.

4. At least 1/2 of the members of the Selection Committee must be present at a meeting of the Selection Committee. A letter of proxy does not count as attendance.

(Selection)

Article 4. At the beginning of each year, the Selection Committee shall ask the Councilors to nominate candidates for the award and to prepare a record of their nominations. Members of the Selection Committee may also act as nominators.

2. The Selection Committee examines the nominated candidates and decides on the winner by secret ballot with a majority of the valid votes cast.

(Reporting)

Article 5. The chairperson shall report on the selection process and results to the Board of Directors and the Board of Councilors.

(Awards)

Article 6. The chairperson shall present the awardee with a certificate and supplementary prize at the annual conference.

(Awarded lectures)

Article 7. The awardee shall present the details of the award at the Congress of the Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine in the current year.

(Supplementary provisions)

Article 8. If any doubt arises concerning the interpretation and operation of these Regulations, the Board of Directors shall decide.

2. In addition to the provisions of these rules, other necessary matters relating to the selection shall be determined separately by the Board of Directors.

3. Amendments to these Rules and Regulations shall be approved by the Board of Councilors when deemed necessary by the Board of Directors.

Supplementary provisions

These Regulations were approved by the Board of Councilors on 5 June 2017 and 23 November 2017 and reported at the General Assembly on 24 November 2017, and shall come into force on 1 January 2018.

The Regulations were approved by the Board of Directors on 7 October 2022 and the Board of Councilors on 9 October 2022 and shall enter into force on 9 October 2022.

Matters of arrangement concerning the selection rules for the ‘Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine Women’s Award’ in accordance with Article 8.

  1. The members of the Selection Committee may nominate additional candidates if there are no nominations from Councilors by the deadline
  2. The forms for nomination forms and candidate statements are attached (Forms 1 and 2)
  3. In voting, a blank sheet of paper shall be treated as valid and any name other than that of a candidate shall be treated as invalid
  4. If no candidate receives a majority of the valid votes cast in a ballot of three or more candidates, a deciding vote shall be held for the top two candidates
  5. In the event of a tie, the Chairman shall decide.
  6. If a member of the selection committee is a candidate, the member concerned may not participate in the deliberations and voting in the selection committee.
