Establishment and Progress

October 10, 1959

The Society of Tropical Medicine was founded in Osaka. For details, see “Inauguration and Progress of the Society of Tropical Medicine” (in “Bulletin of the Society of Tropical Medicine,” Vol. 1, No. 1).

September 1960

At the 2nd General Meeting of the Society of Tropical Medicine held in Kagoshima, Japan, the Society of Tropical Medicine changed its name to the Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine and applied for membership in the Japanese Medical Association.

1973

The secretariat, which had been established in the Institute of Medical Science of the University of Tokyo since 1959, was transferred to the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University.

1973

The name of the official journal of the Society is changed from “Tropical Medicine” to “Journal of the Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine”.

1975.

Joined the Japan Medical Association as subcommittee 64.

1996

The 14th World Congress of Tropical Medicine and Malaria was held in Nagasaki.

2004

The official journal of the Society is renamed Tropical Medicine and Health.

2010

The 50th Annual Convention was held in Okinawa.

January 2016

Changed the publication of the journal to BioMed Central.

January 2017

Established the Japan Society of Tropical Medicine.

2019

The 60th annual convention was held in Okinawa.
